| Disease | SUBJECTING KOREAN WHITE GINSENG POWDER TO 100-121 C FOR 1-30 MINUTES IN AN AUTOCLAVE AND IRRADIATION AT 2450 MHZ MICROWAVE FOR 9.5-3.0 MINUTES SIGNIFICANTLY CHANGED THE COLOR DENSITY AND CAUSED COAGULATION. THE EFFECT ON NORMAL BACTERIA AND THE E.COLI GROUP PRESENT IN THE POWDERED PLANT MATERIAL WAS NEGLIGIBLE. UV IRRADIATION OF THE POWDER(THICKNESS 1.5-10.5 MM)FOR 120 MIN PRODUCED NO CHANGE IN COLOR, DID NOT CAUSE A COAGULATION EFFECT AND DID PRODUCE A STERILE PRODUCT. COBALT-60-GAMMA RAY IRRADIATION AT VARIOUS DOSES WITH 0.1-2.0 M-RAD HAD A SIGNIFICANT STERILIZING EFFECT AND PRODUCED A STABLE POWDER DURING STORAGE FOR FOUR MONTHS AT 25 C. THE OPTIMUM DOSE OF THE LATTER RADIATION WAS 0.5-0.7 M-RAD. |
