FAVORABLE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON THE GROWTH OF THE AERIAL PARTS OF STEVIA REBAUNDIANA PLANTS WAS FOUND TO BE IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER: MEDIUM TEMPERATURE GREATER THAN HIGH TEMPERATURE EQUAL TO UNCONTROLLED TEMPERATURE GREATER THAN LOW TEMPERATURE. FAVORABLE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON THE YIELD OF FRESH ROOT WAS IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER: LOW TEMPERATURE EQUAL TO MEDIUM TEMPERATURE GREATER THAN HIGH TEMPERATURE GREATER THAN UNCONTROLLED CONDITIONS. A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN STEVIOSIDE CONTENT WAS OBSERVED WHEN THE PLANTS WERE CULTIVATED AT A LOW TEMPERATURE CONDITION, BUT UNLESS THE TEMPERATURE WAS LOW, IT HAD LITTLE EFFECT ON THE STEVIOSIDE CONTENT.
