A FINE LINE,THE N-LINE,CHARACTERIZED BY ITS HIGH ELECTRON DENSITY, WAS OBSERVABLE AT BOTH SIDES OF THE Z-LINE IN THE-BAND OF CARDIAC MYOFIBRILLA. GOSSYPOL MAY INDUCE MUSCLE RELAXTION AND THUS INHIBIT CONTRACTION. INCREASED IN LYSOSOMES,DISTENTION OF ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM,AND LOCAL ACCUMULATION,DERANGEMENT,AND SWELLING OF MITOCHONDRIA IN MYOCARDIAL FIBERS. HISTOCHEMICALLY THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN THE ACTIVITY OF LACTATE DEHYDROGENASE IN MITOCHONDRIA AND ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM,AND SUCCINATE DEHYDROGENASE IN MITOCHONDRIA OF CARDIAC MUSCLES AFTER GOSSYPOL TREATMENT.
