DiseaseDAILY DOSING 6 DAYS PER WEEK FOR 6 MONTHS,FOLLOWED BY SACRIFICE AND EXAMINATION OF VISCERA. NO PATHOLOGICAL CHANGES WERE FOUND UNDER THE LIGHT MICROSCOPE IN THE HEART, LIVER, SPLEEN, LUNG, KIDNEY, INTESTINE, LYMPHNODES, BONE MARROW OR BLOOD PICTURE THE 3-BETA-HYDROXYSTEROID-DEHYDROGENASE IN THE ZONA GLOMERULOSA OF THE ADRENAL GLAND WAS OF SLIGHTLY HIGHER INTENSITY THAN THE CONTROL GROUP. OIL RED "O" AND SUDAN BLACK B STAINED SPECIMENS SHOWED EITHER SLIGHT INCREASE OF SLIGHT DECREASE IN THE NUMBER OF FAT DROPLETS IN THEZONA GLOMERULOSA OF THE GOSSYPOL-TREATED GROUP. NO CHANGE IN RENAL G-6-PDH AND RENAL ATPASE ACTIVITIES. ACID PHOSPHATASE ACTIVITY OF THE PROXIMAL AND DISTAL TUBULES SEEMED TO BE SLIGHTLY INCREASED AND ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE ACTIVITY OF PROXIMAL TUBULES SHOWED LITTLE CHANGE. NO EFFECT ON ATPASE,ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE AND ACID PHOSPHATASE ACTIVITIES IN THE LIVER. LIVER GLYCOGEN, G-6-PASE AND RNA DID NOT DIFFER FROM CONTROL VALUES. THE G-6-PDH ACTIVITY OF THE LIVER SEEMED TO BE SLIGHTLY INCREASED IN GOSSYPOL-TREATED ANIMALS.
