| Disease | THE TEST COMPOUND REDUCED PROGRESSIVELY THE AMPLITUDE OF THE END-PLATE POTENTIAL AND ITS QUANTAL CONTENT IN KREBS SOLUTION WITH HIGH MG CONCENTRATION. BUT, IN CURARIZED PREPARATIONS, THE COMPOUND INCREASED THE AMPLITUDE OF END-PLATE POTENTIAL. GOSSYPOL ACETIC ACID EVEN RESTORED THE CONTRACTILE RESPONSE IN SOME PARALYZED MUSCLE FIBERS. THE FREQUENCY OF MINIATURE END-PLATE POTENTIALS WAS AT FIRST SIGNIFICIANTLY INCREASED AND THEN DECREASED BY THE TEST COMPOUND THE HIGHEST FREQUENCY OF MINATURE END-PLATE POTENTIALS USUALLYOCCURRED AFTER THE NEUROMUSCULAR TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN COMPLETELY BLOCKED. ALSO, THE MINIATURE END-PLATE POTENTIAL FREQUENCY CHANGES WERE UNAFFECTED IN KREBS SOLUTION WITH LOWER NA (30 MM) OR HIGER MG (15 MMOL) CONCENTRATIONS AS WELL AS IN CA-FREE MEDIA. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE ACTION OF GOSSYPOL ACETIC ACID ON NEUROMUSCULAR TRANSMISSION MIGHT ORIGINATE FROM INHIBITION OF CA UPTAKE BY MITOCHONDRIA IN PRESYNAPTIC ENDINGS. |
