GOSSYPOL IN 0.1 CITRATE, PH 4.5 WAS RELATIVELY STABLE,WHEREAS IT WAS DECOMPOSED WITH TIME IN A NEUTRAL AQUEOUS SOLUTION (50 MICROMOLS PHOSPHATE BUFFER,PH7.0. 4 MAJOR DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS OF GOSSYPOL WERE IDENTIFIED BY TLY WITH RF VALUES OF 0.54, 00.34, 0.27 AND 0.12, RESPECTIVELY,WHEN THESOLVENT SYSTEM OF BENZENE:EHTYL ACETATE:ACETIC ACID(84:13:3) WAS EMPLOYED. GOSSYPOL WAS DECOMPOSED FASTER AT PH 8.5 THA AT PH 7.0. IT WASALSO SHOWN THAT GOSSYPOL WAS DECOMPOSED INTO 6 MAJOR PRODUCTS AFTER 18HOURS OF INCUBATION IN 0.05 M BICARBONATE SOLUTION, PH 8.5,WHEN ANALYZED BY HPLC.
