| Disease | THE ULTRASTRUCTURAL CHANGES IN SERTOLI CELLS OF THE RAT TESTIS WERE EXAMINED AFTER GOSSYPOL TREATMENT. AFTER 4 WEEKS OF TREATMENT, A SERIES OF ULTRASTRUCTURAL CHANGES CONCERNED WITH PHAGOCYTIC ACTIVITY SUCH AS AN INCREASE IN LYSOSOMES,LIPID DROPLETS,RING OR CUP-SHAPED MITOCHONDRIA WERE EVIDENT IN THE SERTOLI CELL. AFTER 6 WEEKS OF TREATMENT, THE SERTOLI CELLS BECAME INACTIVE AND BEGAN TO SHOW DEGENERATIVE CHANGES SUCH AS DISTENSION + VESICULATION OF E.R.,ACUMULATION OF LIPID DROPLETS,CELLULAR DEBRIS + LYSOSOMES IN VARYING SIZES + PHASES, AND OCCURRENCE OF ATROPHIC CHANGES IN MITOCHONDRIA. THE NATURE OF THESE CHANGES IN SERTOLI CELLS FOLLOWING GOSSYPOL TREATMENT AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE IS DISCUSSED. |
