| Disease | PLANT MATERIAL GROWN IN THAILAND (KHON KAEN) WAS CUT,DRIED UNDER DIRECT SUNLIGHT FOR 2 DAYS,AND THEN KEPT INDOORS THROUGHOUT THE EXPERIMENT.THE HAY SAMPLES WERE SHIPPED TO THE U.K. FOR DETERMINATION OF PYRROLIZIDINE ALKALOIDS. THE PROXIMATE ANALYSIS FOR NUTRITIONAL VALUES WAS CARRIED OUT AT THE NUTRITION LABORATORY OF THE FACULTY OF AGRRICULTURE, KHON KAEN UNIVERSITY. THE HAY WAS FED AD LIB TO 12 NATIVE CATTLE FREED FROM DISEASES FOR 4 MONTHS. THE ANIMAL GROWTH RATE WAS RECORDED AND THE GENERALCONDITION EXAMINED CONSISTENTLY. BLOOD SAMPLES WERE DRAWN EVRY 2 WEEKS FOR ANALYSIS. IMMEDIATELY AFTER SLAUGHTERING, A SSTEMATIC POSTMORTEM EXAMINATION WAS PERFORMED. REPRESENTATIVE PIECES OF VITAL ORGANS WERE PROMPTLYFIXED IN CARNOY'S FIXATIVE AND PROCESSED THROUGH THE HISTOPAHOLOGICAL TECHNIC. THE PLANT WAS RICH IN PROTEIN AND PROMOTE GROWTH BETTER THAN RICE STRAW CONSIDERABLY. THE PYRROLIZIDINE ALKALOID CONTENT WAS LESS THAN 0.01-0.01%. THE AVERAGE ALKALOID CONSUMED IN 4 MONTHS WAS 20.2GM/100 KG. THE ORGANS DID NOT SHOW PATHOLOGICAL CHANGES AS JDGED BY THE LIGHT MICROSCOPE. |
