| Disease | FOLLOWING DAILY DOSING FOR 37 DAYS MOST OF THE MYOFIBRILS OF THE GASTROCNEMIUS MUSCLE STILL KEPT THEIR NORMAL PERIODIC STRUCTURES WITH EACH FIBER MAINTAINING ITS TRANSVERSELY ARRANGED PATTERN OF ALTERNATING DARK A-BANDS AND LIGHT I-BANDS ALONG THE WHOLE LENGTH OF THE FIBER. SOME MYOFIBRILS LOST THEIR NORMAL STRIATION. THE WIDTH OF THE I-BAND INCREASED AND MYOFIBRIL LYSIS HAD BEGUN IN A FEW OF THE MYOFIBRILS. THERE WAS NO OBVIOUS PATHOLOGICAL CHANGES SEEN IN THE MITOCHONDRIA. |
