| Disease | DAILY DOSING FOR SIX MONTHS. SUPPRESSION OF SPERM PRODUCTION AND MOTILITY WAS OBSERVED WITHOUT ANY SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN PLASMA LEVELS OF TESTOSTERONE. A SUDDEN INCREASE IN SPERM COUNTS WAS OBSERVED AFTER ATTAINING AZOOSPERMIA, THOUGH THE SPERM MOTILITY REMAINED VERY SLUGGISH. WITH THE LIGHT MICROSCOPE, SPERM APPEARED WITH COILED OR BROKEN TAIL PIECES AND AN OCCASSIONAL DETACHED HEAD AAND TAIL, BUT NO STRIKING ANOMALY. AT THE ULTRASTRUCTURAL LEVEL, DISRUPTION OF AXIAL COMPLEXES WAS COMMONLY OBSERVED WITH GOSSYPOL TREATMENT. THE ENTIRE AXIAL COMPLEX WAS FREQUENTLY DESTROYED, SUGGESTING AND IMPAIRMENT OF SPERM MOTILITY. |
