DiseaseDAILY DOSING FOR SIX MONTHS. NO SERIOU NO SERIOUS CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL FINDINGS WERE OBSERVED IN ANY OF THE MONKEYS EXCEPT DIARRRHEA AND LOSS OF APPETITE AMONG GOSSYPOL-TREATED ANIMALS DURING THE INITIAL STAGES, WHICH WAS REVERSIBLE AFTER A BRIEF SUSPENSION OF TREATMENT. THE MEAN BODY WEIGHT OF THE ANIMALS DID NOT CHANGE. RESULTS OF MEASUREMENTS OF LIVER ENZYME CONCENTRATIONS(SGOT,SGPT,GAMMA-GT) WERE WITHIN NORMAL RANGE IN ALL ANIMALS, INDICATING NO LIVER DAMAGE. KIDNEY FUNCTION TESTS AS EVALUATED BY BLOOD UREA NITROGEN AND SPERM CREATININE SHOWED NO IMPAIRMENT. THE HEMATOLOGICAL DATA REVEALED NORMAL HEMATOPOIESIS. SERUM PROTEINS WERE WITHIN NORMAL RANGE INDICATING THE NORMAL ACTIVITY OF CATABOLIC AND ANABOLIC HORMONES ON PROTEIN METABO SERUM PROTEINS WERE WITHIN NORMAL RANGE INDICATING THE NORMAL ACTIVITY OF CATABOLIC AND ANABOLIC HORMONES ON PROTEIN METABOLISM. THE STUDY SHOWED NO CHANGES IN PLASMA LEVELS OF SODIUM AND POTASSIUM, NOR IN BLOOD PRESSURE AMONG GOSSYPOL-TREATED ANIMALS.
