| Disease | GOSSYPOL EFFECT ON LACTATE DEHYDROGENASE ISOENZYME X IN HUMAN SPERMATOZOA FROM 10 GOSSYPOL TREATED VOLUNTEERS WAS INVESTIGATED WITH HISTOCHEMICAL AND ELECTROPHORETIC TECHNIQUES. RESULTS SUGGESTED THAT 1) THE FORMAZEN DEPOSITS ON THE NECK AND MIDPIECE OF SPERMATOZOA WERE MAINLY THE REACTION PRODUCTS ON LDH-X ACTIVITY, THE DEPOSITS BECAME COARSE AND SCARCE AND FINALLY DIASPPEARED DURING TREATMENT. THE RATION OF LDH-TOTAL LDH IN SPERM HOMOGENATE WAS 42.6% BEFORE TREATMENT AND DECREASED TO 31.1, 26.3 AND 10.2% 30,50 AND 100 DAYS RESPECTIVELY AFTER TREATMENT. 2) THE LDH-X ACTIVITY VARIED INDIVIDUALLY. THE AUTHORS SUGGEST THAT THE HISTOCHEMICAL DETERMINATION OF LDH-X IS SIMPLE, HIGHLY SPECIFIC AND CAN BE USED AS A SENSITIVE PARAMETER FOR TESTING THE QUALITY OF SPERMATOZOA. |
