DAILY AFTERNOON INJECTIONS OF MELATONIN CAUSED ATROPHY OF THE TESTES AND ACCESSORY SEX ORGANS WITHIN 11 WEEKS. INTERRUPTION OF THE DARK PHASE WITH LIGHT BETWEEN 0200 AND 0215 H PREVENTED THE ORGAN ATROPHY. THIS INTERRUPTION IN THE NOCTURNAL CYCLE DECREASES ENDOGENOUS PEAK LEVELS OF MELATONIN. SUGGESTING THAT THE ENDOGENOUS MELATONIN ACTS SYNERGISTICALLY WITH THE INJECTIONS. |
