THE S/M LEVELED OFF TO ABOUT 9 IN THE PRESENCE OF METABOLIC INHIBITORS. INHIBITORS OF RENAL ANION TRANSPORT SUCH AS OUABAIN, PROBENECID, DIDS AND P-AMINOHIPPURATE INHIBITED GOSSYPOL UPTAKE. TETRAETHYLAMMONIUM, A PROTOTYPICAL ORGANIC CATION, DID NOT AFFECT UPTAKE. ACCORDING TO KINETIC STUDIES, THE APPARENT KM FOR GOSSYPOL TRANSPORT IS 0.28 MM. PORPENECID WAS FOUND TO INHIBIT GOSSYPOL TRANSPORT IN A COMPETITIVE MANNER. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT GOSSYPOL IS TRANSPORTED BY THE RENAL TUBULES THROUGH THE CLASSIC ORGANIC ANION SYSTEM. |
