| Disease | THREE PAIRS OF MATURE ANIMALS WERE USED IN THE STUDY. DAILY DOSING FOR 4 WEEKS AT 1.5, 4 OR 5 MG/KG. THROUGH NO ANIMAL DIED DURING THE COURSE OF DOSING,CLINICAL SIGNS INVOLVING THE GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT WERE APPARENT.THE SIGNS WERE DOSE RELATED. AT THE LOWEST DOSE LEVEL THE ONLY ALTERATION WAS IN THE COLOR OF THE FECES BUT AT THE HIGHER DOSE LEVELS (4 OR 5 MG/KG) LIQUID FECES WERE PASSED AND VOMITING WAS FREQUENT. ANIMALS ADOPTED HUDDLED POSTURES.BODY WT WAS AFFECTED AT 4 MG/KG PER DAY AND ABOVE.A VARIETY OF BIOCHEMICAL CHANGES WERE FOUND:SERUM PROTEINS WERE DOWN AND CALCIUM,PHOSPHORUS & SODIUM WERE DECREASED IN ANIMALS RECEIVING 4 MG/KG PER DAY & ABOVE. THERE WERE VARIABLE EFFECTS ON THE BLOOD UREA BUT IT TENDED TO BE ELEVATED AT ALL DOSE LEVELS.THERE WAS AN INDICATION OF HYPOKALEMIA IN ONE ANIMAL RECEIVING 1.5 MG/KG PER DAY.THE ONLY CONSISTENT PATHOLOGICAL FINDING WAS LOWER LIVER WTS. NO MORPHOLOGICAL CHANGES WERE DETECTED IN ANY OF THE ORGANS AND THERE WAS NO APPARENT EFFECT ON THE TESTES. |
