DiseaseORAL ADMINISTRATION OF THE TOTAL "GLYCOSIDE" (GTW) OF THE TITLE PLANT AS A SUSPENSION IN 1% CMC AT 16 MG/KG DAILY FOR SIX DAYS A WEEK FOR FIVE WEEKS IN MALE SD RATS PRODUCED ABSOLUTE INFERTILITY. EXAMINATION OF SEMEN FROM THE CAUDA EPIDIDYMIDIS REVEALED A DECREASE IN SPERM COUNT AND PERCENTAGE OF MOTILE SPERMS BUT AN INCREASE IN PERCENTAGE OF ABNORMAL SPERMS. WHEN MALE RATS TREATED WITH GTW FOR 4 WEEKS WERE ALLOWED TO MATE, THE PREGNANCY RATE WAS REDUCED BY 50% AND THE NUMBER OF LIVE FETUSES/RAT WAS REDUCED FROM 13.1 TO 3.6. GTW DID NOT CHANGE THE MALE RATS INCREASED TESTOSTERONE LEVELS IN SERUM AND TESTICLES. THESE EFFECTS OF HCG WERE NOT AFFECTED BY PRETREATMENT WITH GTW.
