| Disease | A RANDOMIZED, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED CLINICAL TRIAL WAS PERFORMED TO EVALUATE THE PHARMACOKINETICS AND DERMAL PHOTOSENSITIVITY OF HYPERICIN AND PSEUDOHYPERICIN OF IN HUMAN SUBJECTS AFTER THE SINGLE AND MULTIPLE DOSE ADMINISTRATION. SINGLE AND MULTIPLE DOSE PHARMACOKINETICS OF HYPERICIN AND PSEUDOHYPERICIN WERE DETERMINED IN 13 SUBJECTS AFTER EITHER A PLACEBO OR 900, 1800 MG OR 3600 MG OF THE EXTRACT (CONTAINING 0, 2.81, 5.62 AND 11.25 MG COMBINED OF HYPERICIN AND PSEUDOHYPERICIN). THE MAXIMUM TOTAL HYPERICIN PLASMA LEVELS WERE OBSERVED AT 4 HOURS AFTER DOSING AND WERE 0.028, 0.061 MG/L, RESPECTIVELY. BEFORE AND 4 HOURS AFTER DRUG INTAKE, THE SUBJECTS WERE EXPOSED AT SMALL AREAS OF THEIR BACK TO INCREASING DOSES OF SOLAR SIMULATED IRRADIATION. NO-DOSE RELATED INCREASED IN LIGHT SENSITIVITY WAS OBSERVED. IN THE MULTIPLE DOSE PART OF THE TRIAL, 50 VOLUNTEERS RECEIVED 600 MG OF THE HERB EXTRACT THREE TIMES DAILY. A SLIGHT INCREASE IN THE SOLAR SIMULATED IRRADIATON SENSITIVITY WAS OBSERVED. |
