DiseaseSIX WEEKS OLD F344 ANIMALS WERE FED GIVEN DIET FOR 104 WEEKS. ALMOST ALL MALES AND 30% OF FEMALES HAD URINARY BLADDER STONES. 90% OF MALES AND 19% OF FEMALES DEVELOPED TRANSITION CELL CARCINOMA. 10% OF MALES AND NO FEMALES DEVELOPED AND SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA OF BLADDER. CONTROLS DEVELOPED NONE. PELVIS TUMORS OCCURRED WITH INCREASED INCIDENCE IN TREATED ANIMALS, 13% OF MALES DEVELOPING PAPILLOMA AND 23% OF MALES AND 11% OF FEMALES DEVELOPING CARCINOMA COMPARED TO NO TUMORS IN CONTROLS. THE ADDITION OF NACL TO DIET HAD A PROTECTIVE EFFECT BY INDUCING POLYURIA SO THAT NO URINARY CALCULI WERE FORMED.
