DiseaseCMPD BINDS A SPECIFIC RECEPTOR ON POORLY MYELINATED NEURONS (AFFERENT), THEREBY OPENING A CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKED BY RUTHENIUM RED DYE BUT NOT BY DIHYDROPYRIDINES OR NA CHANNEL BLOCKER TETRODOTOXIN. CAPSAZEPINE COMPETITIVELY ANTAGONIZES CMPD. RESINIFERATOXIN IS AN ANALOGUE OF CMPD. THIS ACTIVATION OF NEURON PRODUCES AN ALGESIC EFFECT SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED BY AN ANALGESIC EFFECT DUE TO DESENSITIZATION. RELEASE OF NEUROPEPTIDES IS THEREBY INHIBITED SO THAT NEUROGENIC INFLAMMATION IS ALSO INHIBITED. CMPD SYSTEMICALLY TO SAME EFFECT ON AFFERENT NEURONS IN SPINAL CORD. THERE IS NO NEUROTOXIC EFFECT.
