| Disease | USING FLOW CYTOMETRY (FCM:, BOTH T LYMPHOCYTE SUBPOPULATIONS AND LYMPHOCYTE PROLIFERATION STIMULATED BY PHA IN CHILDREN WITH ASTHMA WERE DETECTED AND THE CHANGES AFTER TREATMENT WITH GLYCOSIDES OF TRIPTERYGIUM WILFORDII <LEIGONGTENG> (GTW) FOR ONE WEEK WERE COMPARED. AFTER GTW TREATMENT THERE WERE A SINGIFICANT INCREASE IN NUMBER OF THE OKT3+ CELLS AND A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN NUMBER OF THE OKT4+ CELLS, THAT CAUSED A REMARKABLE FALL OF T4/T8 RATIO (P=0.05). 10 CASES OF ASTHMATICS TREATED WITH GTW WERE SUBJECTED TO THE LYMPHOCYTE PROLIFERATION TEST. STAINING DNA WITH PI DYE, DNA CONTENTS OF T CELL AND CELL CYCLE WERE STUDIED BY FCM AFTER TREATMENT WITH GTW, CELL IN G1/G0 PHASES WERE INCREASED, WHEREAS THOSE IN S+G2/M PHASES WERE DECREASED. IT IS CONSIDERED THAT GTW HAD A POTENT EFFECTS ON T SUBSETS, WHICH MAY BE INDUCED BY FUNCTIONS. GTW INHIBITING LYMPHOCYTE PROLIFERATION INDUCED BY FUNCTIONS. GTW MAY AFFECT G1/G0 PHASES AND PREVENT THE CELL FROM ENTERING S PHASES. THE RESULTS OF THIS INVESTIGATION PROVIDE AN IMPORTANT CLUE TO EXPLAIN THE IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVE EFFECTS OF GTW AND ITS CLINICAL EFFECTS IN TREATING PATIENT WITH AUTOIMMUNE OR ALLERGIC DISEASES. |
