| Disease | IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT OF TRIPTERYGIUM WILFORDII POLYGLYCOSIDIUM (TWP) ON ACUTE EXPTL. SERUM SICKNESS (AESS) IN RABBITS, AESS IS USED AS AN EXPTL. MODEL, AND 24 RABBITS WERE RADOMYLY DIVIDED INTO THE EXPTL. GROUP AND THE CONTROL GROUP WITH 12 IN EACH. IN THE EXPTL. GROUP, 1 DAY BEFORE AND AFTER THE INJECTION OF BOVINE SERUM ALBUMIN (BSA), TWP OF 30 MG/KG.D WAS GIVEN PERITONEALLY FOR 2 WK. FOR THE CONTROL GROUP, ONLY EQUAL AMT. NORMAL SALINE INSTEAD OF TWP. THE EFFECT OF TWP ON PROLIFERATION OF PBMC, ACTIVITY OF INTERLEUKIN-2 (IL-2) AND PATHAOL CHANGES IN KIDNEYS WERE INVESTIGATED. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT TWP COULD EFFECTIVELY SUPPRESS THE PROLIFERATION OF T LYMPHOCYTES INDUCED BY CONA. IT COULD NOT SUPPRESS THAT OF B LYMPHOCYTES INDUCED BY LPS. MOREOVER, TWP COULD INHIBIT THE PRODN. OF IL-2 IN T LYPHOCYTES INDUCED WITH CONA, AND INHIBIT IMMUNE COMPLEX DEPOSITION AND INFLAMMATORY CELL INFILTRATION IN THE GLOMERULI. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT TWP HAS AN IMMUNOMODULATORY EFFECT ON AESS BY AN INHIBITORY FUNCTION OF T LYMPHOCYTES, AND SO IT CAN LESSEN INJURY OF THE KIDNEYS. |
