| Disease | MULTICENTRIC, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED, RANDOMIZED DOUBLE BLIND STUDY WITH OUTPATENTS. 6 CENTRES; MEASUREMENT OF TOTAL VOLUME AND TISSUE VOLUME OF THE LOW LEG AND FOOT, DETERMINATION OF VENOUS CAPACITY AND VENOUS PUMP FUNCTION USING THE VENOUS OCCLUSION PLETHYSMOGRAPHY. 141 PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM MILD CHRONIC VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY (CVI STAGE I) WITH PRIMARY VARICOSIS (N=81) OR PHLEBOGRAPHICALLY PROVED POSTTHROMNOTIC SYNDROME (PTS) (N=60). 4 WEEKS TREATED WITH 2 CAPSULES 3 TIMES A DAY AND IN THE FOLLOWING 8 WEEKS TREATMENT WITH 2 X 2 CAPSULES WITH ACTIVE DRUG (75 MG RUSCUS EXTRACT AND 75 MG TMHC) OR PLACEBO. REDUCTION OF EDEMA VOLUME, IMPROVEMENT OF VENOUS PUMP FUNCTION AND VENOCONSTRICTION. IN COURSE OF THE TREATMENT WITH ACTIVE DRUG THE TISSUE VOLUME OF FOOT AND ANKLE REGION DECREASED (P<0.05), WHEREAS IN THE PLACEBO GROUP THE VOLUME AUGMENTED. AT THE END OF THE TRIAL THE DIFFERENCES IN TISSUE VOLUME BETWEEN THE TWO TREATMENT GROUPS CAME UP TO 45 ML IN VARICOSIS PATIENTS AND 60 ML IN PTS PATIENTS. ADDITIONALLY IN VARICOSIS PATIENTS THE VENOUS PUMP FUNCTION WAS IMPROVED (P<0.05) DUE TO THE REDUCTION OF VENOUS CAPACITY (P<0.05). |
