| Disease | THE PATIENTS WERE DIVIDED RANDOMLY INTO TWO GROUPS: GROUP A (LASER GROUP) UNDERWENT TREATMENT WITH A LOW-POWER LASER AFTER INJECTION OF 50 MG GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT. GROUP B (CONTROL GROUP) RECEIVED IDENTICAL TREATMENT WITH INJECTIONS OF GINKGO
BILOBA. TREATMENT SESSIONS FOR BOTH GROUPS WERE PERFORMED DAILY FOR ALTOGETHER 8 DAYS, AND THE LASER IRRADIATIONS (REAL OR SHAM) LASTED 8 MIN EACH. THE CONTROL GROUP ALSO RECEIVED AN INJECTION OF 50 MG OF G.BILOBA EXTRACT, THE LASER WAS
POSITIONED BUT SWITCHED OFF SO AS NOT TO TRANSMIT THE LASER BEAM. BEFORE STARTING THE TRIAL, IN ALL SUBJECTS, TONE AUDIOMETRY, TYMPANIOMETRY, AND BERA WERE PERFORMED, AS WELL AS ANALYSIS FOR TINNITUS IN REGARD TO ITS MAIN FREQUENCY, LOUDNESS,
AND MASKING INTENSITY OF NARROW BAND NOISE. IN ADDITION TO AUDIOMETRY, BOTH GROUPS RECEIVED A SCALE FOR SELF-ASSESSMENT, RANGING FROM 0 (TINNITUS AS SEVERE AS BEFORE TREATMENT) TO 10 (COMPLETE RELIEF). AUDIOMETRY AND TINNITUS MATCHING WERE
CARRIED OUT AFTER THE 4TH AND 8TH SESSIONS, SELF-ASSESSMENT AFTER EACH SESSION. RESULTS OF THIS TRIAL INDICATE THAT COMBINED SOFT LASER AND G.BILOBA TREATMENT CAN BE HELPFUL TO PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM TINNITUS.
