| Disease | 31 PATIENTS WITH ENDOMETROSIS (EM) WERE GIVEN GOSSYPOL TO INVESTIGATE THE ESTROGEN AND PROGESTIN CYTOSOL RECEPTOR CONCENTRATION OF UTERINE AND ECTOPIC ENDOMETRIUM AND TO EXPLORE THE MECHANISM OF ACTION OF GOSSYPOL BY COMPARING SERUM ESTRADIOL AND PROGESTRONE. ENDOMETRIAL BIOPSICS WERE PERFORMED IN DIFFERENT PHASES OF MENSTRUAL CYCLE ON 24 EM PATIENTS AND THE 27 CONTROLS AND ESTROGEN RECEPTOR AND PROGESTRON RECEPTOR WERE DETERMINED. 15 PATIENTS WERE GIVEN GOSSYPOL FOR 2 MONTHS AND 16 HAD SURGERY. STUDY SHOWED THAT AFTER 2 MONTHS GOSSYPOL TREATMENT, SERUM ESTROGEN AND PROGESTRONE CONCENTRATIONS AND ENDOMETRIUM HISTOLOGY DID NOT SHOW SIGNIFICANT CHANGES. HOWEVER ESTROGEN RECEPTOR AND PROGESTERONE RECEPTOR CONTENTS OF ENDOMETRIUM DROPPED BY 50% AND MORE. THE ATROPHIC EFFECT OF GOSSYPOL ON ENDOMETRIUM MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH INHIBITION OF SEX STEROID HORMONE RECEPTOR SYNTHESIS. |
