THE AUTHORS SUGGEST THAT THE MECHANISM FOR THE INHIBITION OF ELASTINE CLEAVAGE WAS THE BINDING OF PROCYANIDINS TO PROLINE RESIDUES, WHICH IN TURN INCREASES THE NON NPRODUCTIVE (E.E., NOENZYMATICALLY ACTIVE) BINDING OF ELASTASE TO THE SUBSTRATE.
