IN THE SAME INVESTIGATION, THE ABILITY TO PROTECT DNA FROM IRON/ASCORBATE-INDUCED DAMAGE WAS ALSO STUDIED. FURHERMORE, IN THE SAME STUDY, A DECREASED IN SINGLE AND DOUBLE STRAND DNA BREAKS,, KNOWN AS A POSSIBLE FACTOR IN CARCINOGENESIS WAS REPORTED SUGGESTING A POTENTIALLY IMPORTANT ROLE OF PYC IN PROTECTION OF GENETIC MATERIAL AGAINST FREE RADICAL-INDUCED INJURY.
